What do Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata, and Renault have in common (apart from traffic jams)? All of them roll on Steel Strips Wheels Ltd (SSWL) — the Chandigarh-based wheel whisperer that makes India move, quite literally. Incorporated in 1985, SSWL is one of India’s largest producers of steel and alloy wheels, supplying to every segment — from scooters to semis and sedans.
At a market cap of ₹3,257 crore and a price of ₹207 (as of 14 Nov 2025), the company trades at 16.1x earnings, 2x book value, and a dividend yield of 0.6%. Its ROE stands at 14.5%, ROCE at 16.8%, and debt-to-equity ratio of 0.55 — decent balance between aggression and sanity.
Q2FY26 revenue hit ₹1,201 crore (up 9.6% YoY) while PAT came in at ₹38.5 crore, down 23% QoQ — not bad considering exports were caught in global trade turbulence. On a TTM basis, sales are ₹4,696 crore and PAT ₹202 crore, clocking a net margin of 4.3%.
Like the Bhagavad Gita says: “You have the right to perform your duty, but not to the fruits thereof.” SSWL has certainly taken it to heart — it keeps expanding, investing, and producing even when alloy margins refuse to play nice.
2. Introduction
There are companies that chase hype (hello EV startups), and then there are companies that quietly manufacture the hype’s actual wheels. SSWL is that unsung hero — the iron behind the glamour.
The story of Steel Strips Wheels is one of slow, methodical expansion. Born in 1985, operations began in 1991 with humble steel wheel rims. Since then, SSWL has turned itself into a multi-product, multi-location, globally integrated supplier of both steel and alloy wheels.
The company now commands 37% share in passenger vehicles, 61% in heavy commercial vehicles, and 42% in tractors. That’s dominance in at least three markets — and a solid grip (pun intended) over India’s auto supply chain.
But this wheelhouse isn’t spinning alone. SSWL is backed by Tata Steel (6.97%) and Nippon Steel (5.45%), giving it access to premium-grade inputs and global expertise. They even have a collaboration with Ring Techs Co. Ltd., Japan, ensuring that the shine on those alloy wheels isn’t just marketing — it’s metallurgy.
3. Business Model – WTF Do They Even Do?
Steel Strips Wheels Ltd makes two broad types of wheels:
