Popular band extends sold-out Las Vegas Strip Sphere residency

The spectacular Sphere Las Vegas already has a history in its short existence of extending popular music residencies for long engagements.

Since the Las Vegas Strip venue opened on Sept. 29, 2023, with superstar rock band U2’s U2/UV Achtung Baby Live at the Sphere residency, most bands performing at the magical globe have extended their engagements for dozens of shows.

U2 made Sphere Las Vegas its home for over five months and 40 total shows, wrapping up its residency on March 2, 2024.

Grateful Dead spinoff band Dead & Company was the next superstar band to have a long extension of its residency as its “Dead Forever Live at Sphere” residency ran for 48 shows in two runs, from May 16-Aug. 10, 2024, and resuming March 20-May 17, 2025.

The band’s 48 shows currently hold the record for most shows performed by a band at Sphere Las Vegas so far.

Longest-running Sphere Las Vegas residencies:

  • Dead & Company, May 16-Aug. 10, 2024, March 20-May 17, 2025, 48 shows.
  • Eagles, Sept. 20, 2024-Nov. 8, 2025, 44 shows.
  • U2, Sept. 29, 2023-March 2, 2024, 40 shows.

Eagles, who opened their residency at Sphere Las Vegas on Sept. 20, 2024, continued adding shows over the last year, amounting to 44 shows through Nov. 8, 2025.

The “Hotel California” band has not revealed when it is ending its residency, and the Sphere’s management has said they can perform in the venue as long as they choose.

Backstreet Boys extend sold-out Sphere Las Vegas residency

And now legendary superstar 1990s boy band Backstreet Boys has surprised its fans by adding seven shows to its sold-out “Into the Millennium” residency at Sphere Las Vegas, after revealing that its Aug. 24 show would be its final show of 2025.

Backstreet Boys, on May 7, revealed that it would add the band’s final three shows at Sphere Las Vegas for 2025 on Aug. 22, 23, and 24.

The band sold out all three of those shows, as well as the 18 previously scheduled shows in the residency at Sphere Entertainment’s Sphere Las Vegas at the Venetian, which began July 11, 2025.

The lure of a sold-out Sphere was irresistible to Backstreet Boys, as they signed on for seven new holiday season dates, scheduled on Dec. 26, 27, 28, 30, and 31, 2025, and Jan. 2 and 3, 2026, according to an Aug. 13 statement.

Presale tickets for Backstreet Boys Fan Club members will be available Aug. 19, 9 a.m. Pacific time.

Fans can sign up beginning on Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. Pacific to participate in the Artist Presale, which begins Aug. 20 at 9 a.m. Pacific.

Tickets go on sale to the general public on Aug. 22 at 9 a.m. Pacific at Ticketmaster.com.

Backstreet Boys had 80-show residency 2017-2019

Backstreet Boys previously performed their 80-show “Larger Than Life” residency on the Strip from March 1, 2017, to April 27, 2019, at Planet Hollywood.

The popular boy band rose to the top in 1999 with their third album “Millennium,” which debuted at No. 1 and sold 24 million copies, featuring the huge hit single “I Want It That Way.”

The band released its new album “Millennium 2.0” on July 11, 2025, which coincided with the Sphere residency opening and celebrated the 25th anniversary of the original “Millennium” release, according to the band’s website.
