Hindusthan Urban Infrastructure Ltd just delivered a Q3 FY26 quarter that looks like it swallowed an energy drink. Sales jumped to ₹95 Cr, operating margin expanded to a spicy 26%, and PAT came in at ₹15 Cr versus a loss in the previous quarter. Quarterly profit variation? A ridiculous 8,061%. That’s not growth. That’s a resurrection.
But before we break out the champagne glasses, let’s remember this is a company that has reported PAT losses for four straight years up to FY25. TTM PAT stands at -₹57 Cr. ROE is negative. Interest coverage has been weak. And credit ratings were reaffirmed at CARE BB with stretched liquidity.
So the question is simple.
Is this the beginning of a turnaround story?
Or is this just one profitable quarter in a sea of red ink?
Let’s investigate.
2. Introduction – 66 Years Old, Still Reinventing Itself
Founded in 1959, this company has changed its name more times than a Bollywood actor reinventing his career. It started as The Indian Aluminium Cables Limited, became Hindusthan Vidyut Products Limited, then Hindusthan Urban Infrastructure Ltd, and recently changed its name to Hindusthan Insulators & Industries Limited in February 2026.
Why so many transformations?
Because the business itself has evolved (and occasionally shrunk).
It was once into conductors. That business is now discontinued due to volatility in aluminium prices. It had a chemical subsidiary (HSCL). That too has been sold in August 2025 for ₹219.38 Cr. Now what remains is largely:
- High tension insulators
- Rental income from old conductor properties
So what we’re looking at today is a much leaner, more focused company.
But here’s the catch.
Even after 66 years of existence, the company’s last 5-year sales growth is -10%. ROE for the last 3 years averages negative. Inventory days ballooned in previous years. Cash flows have been inconsistent.
Experience? Yes.
Consistency? Questionable.
Are we staring at a sleeping veteran or a tired relic of the past?
Let’s understand what they actually do.
3. Business Model – WTF Do They Even Do?
If you simplify everything:
They make high tension (HT) insulators.
These are the ceramic-like components you see on transmission towers that prevent electricity from
