Two tiger cubs, reportedly abandoned by their mother, were found dead in Karnatakaâs Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary.
Their carcasses were found by the forest guards on Monday in the Shagyam beat route close to Holemuridahatti anti-poaching camp in Hanur taluk of Chamarajanagar district.
T. Hiralal, Conservator of Forests, Chamarajanagar, who confirmed the incident, said that the cubs were no more than two weeks old, and were apparently abandoned by the mother, which happens for various reasons in the wild.
Post-mortem was carried out on Tuesday, and the doctors said that the stomachs of the cubs were empty and that they might have died of starvation.
This comes close on the heels of the death of five tigers, a mother and its four cubs, due to poisoning, in the neighbouring M.M. Hills Wildlife Sanctuary in June.
According to the National Tiger Conservation Authority, Karnataka has lost 13 tigers, including cubs, so far in 2025.
