TGSRTC deployed 4,650 special buses for Rakhi weekend

With the extended weekend ahead of Rakhi, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) pressed into service as many as 4,650 special buses over a period of five days, beginning August 7.

According to data, as many as 407 special buses were deployed on August 7, 960 on August 8, 1,570 on August 9, which was Rakhi day, 781 on August 10, and 932 on August 11. The State road transport undertaking reiterated that regular services continued to operate at standard fares. Many buses were drawn in from city services as well.

Responding to criticism of a fare hike, the TGSRTC pointed out that the increase in ticket prices was in consonance with a prevailing government order, and was in effect only on special services.

Meanwhile, According to Sudha Parimala, Regional Manager, Hyderabad Region, TGSRTC, from August 7 to August 11, the transport juggernaut’s Hyderabad Region catered to over 70% travellers who were women. This means that while the total number of passengers during this period was 69,19,305, of which 48,65,239 were those who availed travelling by means of the Mahalakshmi Scheme, which provides free transport to women and transpersons.

The Hyderabad Region saw as many as 2,156 daily services. An augmentation of services, given the large number of passengers, prompted the TGSRTC to deploy 619 special services.

“On August 9 alone, we operated a record 5.16 lakh km., showcasing the unmatched performance of the Hyderabad Region. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to our drivers, conductors, and ground staff,” said Ms. Sudha Parimala.

“At TGSRTC, public transport is not just a means of travel; it is a medium that fosters connection among people and promotes social unity,” she said.
