Ladies and gentlemen, this is not just a wagon company. This is India’s rolling stock drama series.

Q3 FY26 revenue came in at ₹890 crore, up 13% QoQ. PAT? ₹62 crore. EBITDA margin steady at 13%. But YoY? Revenue down 13.5%. PAT down 35%. Why? Because wheelsets — the literal wheels of business — were in short supply.

Yet the order book stands at ₹5,041 crore. The company is building a ₹2,500 crore integrated wheel and axle plant in Odisha. They’re entering EVs. They’re supplying to Vande Bharat. They’re flirting with Europe.

So what is this? A temporary wheel puncture? Or the early stage of a vertically integrated rail empire?

Let’s investigate.

2. Introduction – When Indian Railways Sneezes, Wagon Makers Catch Cold

Railway manufacturing in India is like a Bollywood hero — dependent on the Railways Ministry’s mood.

If procurement is strong, wagon makers shine. If wheelset supply gets stuck, even the strongest balance sheet feels like it skipped leg day.

Jupiter Wagons had explosive growth between FY21 and FY24. Revenue jumped from ₹998 Cr (FY21) to ₹3,905 Cr (FY25 standalone). PAT climbed from ₹54 Cr to ₹373 Cr.

But FY26 has started with a reality check.

9M FY26 consolidated revenue is ₹2,136 Cr vs ₹2,919 Cr in 9M FY25. That’s a 26.8% decline. PAT halved to ₹139 Cr.

The culprit? Wheelset supply constraints from Railway Wheel Factory.

You build wagons. But if someone else controls the wheels, you’re not the king — you’re the mechanic waiting outside.

And that’s why this Odisha railwheel plant is not optional. It’s existential.

But here’s the question: Is Jupiter solving the right problem, or just expanding capex in a cyclical industry?

3. Business Model – WTF Do They Even Do?

Let’s simplify.

Jupiter has three main personalities:

1️ Rail Mobility

They manufacture:

  • Freight wagons
  • Wheelsets
