CSL Finance Ltd Q3 FY26: ₹20.9 Cr PAT, 27% AUM Growth, 1.00% GNPA – Cheap at 6.96 P/E or Calm Before Asset-Quality Storm?

1. At a Glance – The ₹596 Cr NBFC Playing Both Retail & Real Estate

At ₹261 per share and a market cap of ₹596 crore, CSL Finance is that mid-sized NBFC sitting quietly in the corner while giants like Bajaj Finance hog the spotlight. Stock P/E? 6.96. Price-to-book? 1.01. ROE? 14.2%. Dividend yield? 1.15%.

Q3 FY26 revenue came in at ₹64.4 crore, PAT at ₹20.9 crore, up 25% YoY but down 14% QoQ. AUM surged 27% YoY to ₹1,460 crore. Sounds good, right?

But here’s the masala: Gross NPA jumped to 1.00% in Q3 from 0.38% last year. Net NPA rose to 0.75%. Provision Coverage Ratio dropped to 128% from 300% levels seen earlier.

So what is this? A growth story temporarily stressed? Or a real estate-heavy NBFC being reminded that risk always collects its EMI?

Let’s audit this politely… but with popcorn. 🍿

2. Introduction – The Secured Lender With an Identity Crisis

CSL Finance was incorporated in 1992. It is an RBI-registered NBFC providing secured loans to SMEs and wholesale real estate borrowers.

As of 9MFY25, it operates across 7 states with 43 branches and an AUM of ₹1,150 crore. By Q3 FY26, AUM has grown to ₹1,460 crore.

Their model is simple:

  • 100% secured lending.
  • 63% wholesale loans (real estate-heavy).
  • 37% SME retail loans.

But here’s where it gets interesting. Management says they want to shift toward SME Retail to make the book more granular. Yet in Q3 FY26, AUM mix shifted further toward Wholesale (31:69 vs 37:63 earlier).

So they want retail… but wholesale is doing the heavy lifting.

Is this strategic clarity? Or just following where the money is easiest?

Let’s break down the engine.
