The body of a 30-year-old man from Poduvacheri under the Chakkarakkal police station limits was recovered from the Kilyanthara stretch of the Kootupuzha river in Kannur, Kerala on Tuesday morning, five days after he jumped into the river during a police inspection at the Kerala-Karnataka border check-post.
Rahim, an accused in a KAAPA case, was travelling from Karnataka with friends in a car when the police stopped the vehicle for inspection around 6 p.m. on Friday. He allegedly ran from the check-post and leapt into the river.
The recovery followed an extensive search by the police and scuba diver and rescue teams which was hampered by strong currents and heavy rain.
The body has been shifted to a hospital morgue after an inquest by the Iritty police.
