Global Education Ltd: EdTech, Tea, and a Side of Hotel Rooms?

1. At a Glance

Global Education Ltd (GEL) is that student who joined college to “focus on studies” but somehow ended up running the canteen, playing cricket for the state team, and hosting fresher’s parties. FY25 revenue was ₹68.6 Cr, PAT ₹23.7 Cr, with ROE at 26.7%—better than half of India’s listed IT companies. Yet, the stock tanked 24% in a year. Maybe the market also thinks it’s doing too many electives.

2. Introduction

Founded in 2011, Global Education Ltd is technically an EdTech + Training + Publishing company. But if you read their subsidiaries list, it feels like you’ve stumbled into a career fair. They’ve got a sports academy, BFSI training institute, boutique hotels (Yoco Stays), and even OwnPrep—an EdTech for undergrads.

In FY24, 73% of revenue came from training and development, while 27% came from “business support” (translation: jugaad side hustles). Their ERP product Cyber Vidya bagged six new clients worth ₹0.6 Cr—good news, but not enough to move the revenue needle.

So, is this a high-ROE growth story being ignored, or just a company spreading itself thinner than butter on a Parle-G biscuit?

3. Business Model – WTF Do They Even Do?

The company’s “education solutions” buffet includes:

  • Training Division: From communication skills to medical simulation training with fancy mannequins. Basically, they can train you to crack interviews and perform CPR if things go south.
  • Publishing: Distributes NCERT books in Maharashtra and MP. Side hustle: prints non-syllabus guides—basically “pass your exams with this one thin book.”
  • Placement Services: Runs under DDUGKY, focusing on rural youth. Kind of like a desi Naukri.com with village Wi-Fi.
  • Digital Services: ERP (Cyber Vidya), e-gov, web development, digital marketing. Their ERP bagged six institutes recently.
  • Global Power Training Institute: Specializes in power sector training—because why not?
  • Facility Management: From infrastructure management to cybersecurity. Yes, the leap is that random.
  • Subsidiaries:
    • Global Sports Academy (adventure camps)
    • Global BIFS Academy (BFSI training)
    • Yoco Stays (luxury villas & hotels—yes, education company in hospitality)
    • OwnPrep (undergrad EdTech platform).

Revenue Split FY24:

  • Training & Skill Development – 52%
  • Printing & Stationery – 18%
  • Computers & Accessories – 10%
  • Renting Equipment – 7%
  • Business Support – 6%
  • Management Services – 4%
  • Ads + Books – 3%

Punchline: This is less EdTech and more D-Mart meets Byju’s.
