A portion of the concrete roof of a room in the pay ward of the Government Taluk Hospital in Perumbavoor fell off on Monday (August 11, 2025) evening.
No one was injured as the patient in the room had been shifted before the incident. The hospital authorities said that the room was located on the ground floor of the two-storey building.
The building was not included under the âunsafeâ structures on the taluk hospital campus as the authorities had been renewing the fitness certificate annually. However, it had developed structural issues as the building was over five decades old, they said.
The annual maintenance of the pay ward, which is under the Kerala Health Research and Welfare Society (KHRWS), has been pending. The hospital administration has alerted the KHRWS about the incident.
The hospital authorities said that two other buildings on the campus had been certified âunfitâ, and that they expected the government to take the required follow-up measures.
