Ruchira Papers Q3 FY26: Revenue Down 21%, Profit Crashes 88%, Yet Trading at 5.8x P/E — Deep Value or Deep Trouble?

1. At a Glance – The Paper That’s Either Cheap or Cheating Gravity

Here’s the scene: a ₹310 crore market cap paper manufacturer trading at ₹104, sitting almost at its 52-week low of ₹103, down 13% in 3 months and nearly 29% in 6 months. The stock P/E? A jaw-dropping 5.84. Dividend yield? A juicy 4.79%. Price-to-book? Just 0.63x.

And then Q3 FY26 hits like a wet tissue.

Quarterly sales fell 21.6% YoY to ₹131.59 crore. PAT collapsed 87.6% to ₹2.04 crore. EPS for the quarter? A microscopic ₹0.68.

Meanwhile, ROCE is still reported at 18.7% and ROE at 15.3%. Debt-to-equity stands at 0.38, which looks manageable — until you peek at the latest balance sheet and see borrowings suddenly ballooning.

So what is this — a cyclical paper stock temporarily bleeding, or a structural problem wrapped in kraft paper?

Let’s unfold this carefully.

2. Introduction – When Paper Cuts Hurt

Ruchira Papers Ltd was incorporated in 1980. It manufactures Kraft Paper and Writing & Printing Paper from its facility in Sirmaur, Himachal Pradesh. Simple business. No AI. No EV batteries. No buzzwords. Just paper.

But paper businesses are sneaky. When demand is strong and raw material costs behave, margins look beautiful. When cycle turns? Earnings evaporate faster than wedding invitation trends.

And this quarter — the numbers screamed cycle.

From ₹21.76 crore net profit in June 2023 quarter to ₹2.04 crore in December 2025 quarter. That’s not a slowdown. That’s a dramatic plot twist.

Add to that — the Managing Director and promoter Umesh Chander Garg passed away on January 23, 2026. The board committees were reconstituted on February 13, 2026. Management transition plus earnings collapse — not exactly the combination conservative investors dream about.

Yet the stock trades at 5.8x earnings. Which earnings? That’s the million-rupee question.

Are we looking at a fallen angel or a value trap wearing a dividend mask?

Let’s decode.

3. Business Model – WTF Do They Even Do?

Ruchira Papers manufactures two main things:

  1. Kraft Paper – Used in corrugated boxes and packaging. Strong tensile strength, load-bearing capacity.
  2. Writing & Printing Paper (WPP) – Used for notebooks, stationery, wedding cards, spiral books, copier paper.
