Ajanta Soya Q3 FY26: ₹311 Cr Sales, PAT Down 74%, 1% OPM… Edible Oil or Edible Margin?

1. At a Glance – Tiny Cap, Tiny Margins, Big Drama

₹199 crore market cap. ₹24.7 stock price. 19% down in 3 months. 48% down in one year. OPM at a majestic 1.27%. Quarterly profit down 74.4%.

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the world of Ajanta Soya Ltd — where ₹1,359 crore in annual sales produces ₹14.6 crore profit, and we all clap because “at least it’s profitable.”

Stock P/E stands at 13.6 vs industry median of 20.3. Price to book is 1.2. ROCE is a surprisingly healthy 26.8%. ROE at 18.1%. Debt? Barely ₹2.92 crore. Debt-to-equity at 0.02.

So what is this? A low-margin FMCG survivor? A commodity trader in disguise? Or a cooking oil company that runs on razor-thin spreads and prayers?

Latest Q3 FY26 numbers show revenue of ₹311.75 crore and PAT of ₹2.52 crore. Margins? Around 1%.

In edible oil, volumes are king. But margins are… evaporating.

Curious already? Good. Let’s open the oil tin.

2. Introduction – The Vanaspati Veteran

Founded in 1992, Ajanta Soya is not a startup pretending to be revolutionary. It’s old-school. It makes vanaspati and refined oils. The stuff your halwai uses to fry samosas and the biscuit factory uses to make those 5-rupee glucose packs.

It operates from Bhiwadi, Rajasthan, with installed capacity of 1.65 lakh MTPH. In FY23, it produced 97,022 MT. Not bad.

Revenue mix?
98% from vanaspati & refined oil.
2% from by-products.

Translation: This is a pure edible oil play. No fancy diversification. No fintech dreams. No AI-powered soybeans.

Clients include names like Raja Biscuits, Britannia, Mrs. Bector’s Cremica, Godrej, Bikano, Anmol. So yes, they sell to serious food manufacturers.

But here’s the twist.

Despite ₹1,359 crore in TTM sales, net margin last year was just 1.97%. Operating margin TTM? 1%.

One bad quarter and profit evaporates like oil on a hot tawa.

So the question is — is this business stable but low-margin… or structurally fragile?
