Let’s start with the elephant in the charging station.

India’s largest electric two-wheeler (E2W) maker with 19.6% market share in Q1 FY26 is currently burning cash like a Diwali cracker that forgot to stop. Q3 FY26 revenue stands at ₹470 Cr, PAT at ₹-487 Cr, and quarterly OPM at -58%.

Yet management says this quarter is a “structural reset.”

Gross margin? A record 34.3%.
Breakeven? 15,000 units per month.
Deliveries? 32,680 in Q3 FY26.

So technically above breakeven volume… but still bleeding. Interesting, no?

The stock has corrected over 50% in one year. Promoter holding dropped to 34.6%. CFO resigned in January 2026.

Is this India’s Tesla moment?
Or India’s WeWork moment?

Let’s open the hood.

2. Introduction – The Rise, The Hype, The Hangover

Founded in 2017, Ola Electric promised to electrify India. Not metaphorically. Literally.

The pitch was simple:

  • Vertical integration
  • In-house batteries
  • Gigafactory
  • Software stack
  • D2C distribution

And yes, a massive 2,000-acre Futurefactory in Krishnagiri.

IPO in August 2024 raised ₹6,415 Cr.
₹5,500 Cr was fresh issue.

Since then?

Market share dropped from 48–50% in early FY24 to 19.6% in Q1 FY26.

That’s not a correction. That’s gravity.

Competition from:

  • Traditional OEMs
  • Distribution-heavy players
  • Price warriors

Meanwhile, customer complaints:

  • 2,994 quality complaints in FY24
  • 1,742 servicing complaints

Management says it was “service execution, not product quality.”

Okay. But when service fails, customers don’t differentiate between “execution issue” and “brand issue.”

Would you?
