Let that sink in.
A company with zero quarterly sales is trading at nearly 100 times earnings. The earnings? Mostly “Other Income.” The legendary maker of the Ambassador is now essentially a financial footnote with court cases attached.
The Uttarpara plant has been under suspension since 2014. Government resumed 395 acres. Supreme Court dismissed the appeal. NSE voluntary delisting completed in October 2025. Auditor says “going concern uncertainty.”
And yet — 2.7 lakh shareholders are still here.
Question: Are investors holding nostalgia… or a lottery ticket tied to land monetisation?
Welcome to Hindustan Motors 2026 edition — less horsepower, more legal paperwork.
2. Introduction – From Ambassador to “Ambiguous”
Once upon a time, if you were a bureaucrat in Delhi, you rode in an Ambassador.
Today, Hindustan Motors is riding in court vans.
Incorporated in 1948, the company once manufactured vehicles, spare parts, steel products and components. It had integrated facilities: press shop, forge shop, foundry, R&D — the works. The Uttarpara plant was India’s first integrated automobile facility.
But operations at Uttarpara were suspended in May 2014 due to low productivity, indiscipline, shortage of funds and lack of demand.
Since then?
The company has been trying to:
- Scout for tie-ups
- Introduce new products
- Monetise land
- Restructure manpower
- Sell scrap
- Transfer brands
In FY23, it generated no operating revenue — only other income from bank deposits and non-operating sources.
In July 2025, government officials seized 395 acres of land at Uttarpara. The Supreme Court dismissed the company’s appeal on July 16, 2025.
And in September 2025, it voluntarily delisted from NSE.
So what exactly is left?
A listed shell with some assets, legal uncertainties, and occasional other income.
Is this a turnaround story… or a slow liquidation story with suspense music?
3. Business Model – WTF Do They Even Do?
Let’s explain this like you’re a smart but lazy investor.
Originally, Hindustan Motors manufactured:
- Ambassador cars
- Winner mini-trucks
- Automotive components via Accu Cast
