1. At a Glance
Gold may glitter, but P. N. Gadgil Jewellers Ltd (PNGJL) is the one currently blinding the Street. With Q2FY26 revenue of ₹2,177.6 crore and PAT of ₹793.1 million (₹79.3 crore), this 183-year-old Pune-based legend is proving that legacy brands can still flex like startup unicorns. Market cap? A shining ₹8,715 crore.
The stock trades at P/E 29.4x, ROE 21%, and ROCE 19.4% — numbers any new-age retailer would kill for (and possibly Instagram it later). Despite this, dividend yield is 0%, because apparently, PNG prefers polishing jewellery over rewarding shareholders.
Bhagavad Gita says, “Karmanye vadhikaraste ma phaleshu kadachana.” — PNG took it literally: all karma, no phal (dividend).
Still, the sparkle is real — sales up 8.8% YoY, profit up 127%, and a debt-fueled expansion spree across 50 showrooms and three states.
2. Introduction – When Gold Meets Growth
Welcome to Maharashtra’s most traditional yet tech-savvy jeweller. P. N. Gadgil Jewellers, established in 1832, is older than most Indian banks, airlines, and even the concept of GST. What began as a family-run shop in Sangli is now a ₹7,900 crore retail empire — where every necklace tells a story, and every bangle carries 190 years of billing experience.
PNG has mastered the art of surviving gold volatility, festive chaos, and even saas-bahu price haggling. But make no mistake — this isn’t your neighbourhood jeweller anymore. PNG is now a corporatized retail powerhouse — with IPO plans, credit ratings, and analysts who discuss mangalsutras on quarterly calls.
In FY23, revenue skyrocketed 76%, led by rising jewellery demand and — wait for it — a 280% surge in low-margin bullion sales. Gold is clearly not the only thing rising here. In FY24, PNG filed a Draft Red Herring Prospectus for a ₹850 crore IPO, intending to reduce debt and polish its balance sheet.
Now in FY26, after CRISIL’s reaffirmation of ‘A (Positive)’ rating and a QIP plan of ₹1,000 crore, PNG is marching toward Titan’s turf — except their customers pay in cash, not credit.
3. Business Model – WTF Do They Even Do?
P. N. Gadgil Jewellers is like your favourite Thali — everything is there: gold, silver, diamonds, pooja items, and a few emotional attachments.
1. Retail Jewellery Sales (Core Business):
Gold, diamond, and silver ornaments contribute the bulk of revenues. PNG is known for blending Temple Motif and Contemporary Designs — appealing both to the aunt who loves traditional Kadas and her daughter who wants minimalist rose gold.
2. Collections Galore:
Each festive season comes with designer bait — Azva, Divine Collections, Color Mangalsutra
