1. At a Glance
They say “Cleanliness is next to godliness.” But on Dalal Street, clean financials are the true religion — and Jyothy Labs Ltd (JLL) has mastered both detergent and discipline.
Trading at ₹ 311, the company boasts a market cap of ₹ 11,415 crore, a P/E of 32.5×, and an almost divine ROE of 29%. Yet, the gods of valuation have spoken: the stock is down 27% YoY, because even soap bubbles pop when profit growth slows (-6.45% TTM).
Q2 FY26 snapshot:
Revenue ₹ 736 crore, PAT ₹ 88 crore, OPM 16%, and a respectable ROCE of 37.1%. With zero meaningful debt (₹ 54 crore) and ₹ 801 crore cash, the balance sheet is whiter than a freshly washed bedsheet in a Ujala ad.
As the Bible reminds us, “Clean hands and a pure heart shall ascend.” Jyothy Labs apparently took that literally — with fabric whiteners, dishwash gels, and dividend payouts as proof.
2. Introduction
In a world where FMCG giants shout from rooftops about “premiumisation” and “AI-led consumer connect,” Jyothy Labs quietly keeps India’s clothes whiter and plates shinier. Founded in 1983 by M.P. Ramachandran in a modest Kerala setup, the company today serves 3.6 million retail outlets, of which 1.3 million are directly serviced.
Its flagship Ujala turned the laundry segment into a religion. The brand’s 84% market share in fabric whitener is so dominant that “Ujala” is practically a verb in southern households — “Did you Ujala that shirt?”
But this isn’t just about blue liquids. With Pril and Exo cleaning kitchens, Maxo protecting bedrooms, and Margo cleansing bodies, Jyothy has turned the entire house into a franchise of freshness.
Yet, Q2 FY26 came with soap bubbles of caution: profits dipped 16% YoY even as revenue stayed flat at ₹ 736 crore. Inflation, GST adjustments, and a mild slowdown in rural demand are squeezing margins like overused sponges.
Still, Jyothy’s steady dividend (1.13% yield, 38% payout) reminds shareholders — even if clothes fade, the cheques don’t.
3. Business Model – WTF Do They Even Do?
Let’s decode the detergent dynasty with a comic lens but clean facts:

Ujala Supreme holds 84% market share in fabric whitener, while Ujala detergent owns 22.9% of Kerala’s washing buckets. FY25 saw the launch of Ujala Young & Fresh, a fabric conditioner that
