Sheel Biotech Ltd, the agri–bio play that wants to be the Tesla of tulips and the Infosys of greenhouses, is hitting Dalal Street with a ₹34.02 crore book-build issue. The IPO offers 54 lakh fresh shares at a price band of ₹59–63. Market cap at upper band = ₹128.2 crore — roughly the cost of a single Virat Kohli endorsement deal.
Financials? FY24 revenue ₹92.6 crore (+15% YoY), PAT ₹10.5 crore (2x from FY23). But hold on — EPS tumbles from ₹7.03 pre-issue to just ₹1.43 post-issue, blowing up P/E from a humble 9x to 44x. This isn’t valuation, this is tulip mania 2.0.
Retail investors need to cough up ₹2.52 lakh minimum (4,000 shares), because in SME IPO land, affordability is as mythical as a government subsidy arriving on time.
2. Introduction
Biotech + Organic + Greenhouses + Government Projects = investor FOMO. That’s the formula Sheel Biotech is selling. Founded in 1991 (yes, older than India’s economic liberalization memes), the company has survived decades in floriculture and organic farming by selling everything from tissue culture plants to turnkey greenhouse projects.
Now, it’s tapping the IPO market with a promise to “revolutionize sustainable agriculture.” Translation: “We will build greenhouses, tissue culture bananas, and organic tomatoes. You will pay 44x P/E for it.”
To be fair, the company has legit credentials — ISO-certified, DBT- and DST-recognized R&D lab, 160 employees, farmer training programs, and government landscaping contracts. But let’s not forget: agriculture is as weather-dependent as a Bollywood box office Friday. One bad monsoon, and your RoE is gone with the wind.

3. Business Model – WTF Do They Even Do?
Sheel Biotech isn’t just about “plants.” It’s a full-service agricultural services buffet:
Planting Material: Tissue culture plants for fruits, veggies, ornamentals. Fancy way of saying “plants without germs.”
Greenhouse Projects: Turnkey climate-controlled farming setups with drip irrigation, fertigation, automation. Basically, “grow your cucumbers like they do in the Netherlands.”
Organic Adoption & Certification: Helping farmers get organic certification under NPOP & PGS. (Farmers pay, but often government funds it.)
Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs): Helping farmers group up, get training, and sell collectively. Middlemen hate this.
Skill Development: Training farmers via workshops and exposure trips. Aka “agri MBA crash courses.”
Business Model Punchline: Consultancy + Products + Services = margins better than pure farming, but nowhere near software SaaS.

Commentary: FY24 was strong, doubling PAT. But EPS dilution post-IPO is brutal — from ₹7.03 → ₹1.43. That’s like ordering a thali and being served only papad.
