Theme of the Year: “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion”
Translation: Dig up vintage, look dramatic, and pray your train doesn’t trip a Kardashian.
1. Alia Bhatt – Princess Aurora, but Make It Sabyasachi
Alia arrived floating in a pastel pink Sabyasachi creation, looking like she stepped out of a Mughal miniature… and into a Vogue fantasy. Critics called it “ethereal,” fans called it “goals,” and Ranbir probably said, “Arrey wah, looks expensive.”
Her cape was longer than an IRCTC waitlist, but she glided with the calm of someone who knows her lehenga costs more than your Maruti Swift.

2. Deepika Padukone – Barbie Meets Bharatnatyam
Deepika’s custom Gaurav Gupta gown screamed high fashion with a side of “don’t mess with me, I’ve trained in sword fighting for Padmaavat.” A dramatic fan-like shoulder piece reminded everyone that if Bollywood ever remakes Black Swan, she’s booked.
Her accessories? Earrings that could deflect negativity and trolls in one swing.
3. Priyanka Chopra – Still Owning America (and Nick Jonas)
Our very own Desi Girl turned Global Queen arrived in a look that said, “I’m the theme.” Draped in a celestial Rahul Mishra ensemble embroidered with thousands of hand-beaded constellations, she brought Indian craftsmanship to the galaxy.
Nick, by contrast, wore a black suit, proving once again that husbands are props—expensive, well-dressed props.

4. Isha Ambani – Saree, But Supercharged
Isha’s appearance was less fashion, more museum-worthy exhibit. Clad in a custom Tarun Tahiliani saree-gown hybrid, she floated through the Met like the rightful heiress to Nita’s wardrobe and Mukesh’s empire.
She also brought the bling: diamonds so big they had their own gravitational field. Somewhere, a Swiss banker shed a proud tear.
5. Natasha Poonawalla – Avant-Garde or Avengers Villain? We Love Both.
Queen of turning couture into conversation, Natasha wore what looked like the lovechild of futuristic armor and a Fabergé egg. Was it wearable? Barely. Was it unforgettable? Absolutely.
If fashion is war, she won the Met Gala with a gold-plated mic drop.
Honourable Mentions:
- Sonam Kapoor sent in an AI hologram of herself in a vintage Dior look—because actual Sonam was busy curating her own Met Gala at home (with better lighting, obviously).
- Ranveer Singh was MIA. Rumor has it he was banned after last year’s shirtless sherwani-meets-space cowboy stunt.
- Kriti Sanon stunned in a minimalist Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla creation—because sometimes less is more, especially when everyone else is dressed like a renaissance chandelier.
Indian Designers Take a Bow
From Rahul Mishra to Sabyasachi, Indian designers reawakened the world to the richness of handloom, embroidery, and heritage storytelling. While some celebs wore barely-there tulle and 3D flowers that looked like recycled garden decor, the Indian contingent said: “We brought brocade. We brought story. We brought substance.”
And they delivered.
Final Word: From Juhu to Fifth Avenue
Once upon a time, Indian celebs tiptoed around Western fashion circles. Now, they’re owning them with elegance, humour, and 15 kg of embroidery.
The Met Gala wasn’t ready for the desi invasion. But don’t worry, we left behind a dupatta or two for next year.
